The Successful NQT has been developed around 5 learning themes and 5 key learning questions (KLQs):
Module 5 – 27th March 2019 (Conference timings – 9.00 to 3.30)
• Key learning theme – Developing metacognition
□ K.L.Q. – Which practical approaches have the greatest effect size on developing a pupil ability to learn?
Module five considers the critical aspect of metacognition and how this can be developed within every classroom. The Sutton Trust report on classroom interventions identified metacognition as one of the classroom approaches with the highest effect size and this session will explore practical ways for how a teacher can develop ‘assessment-ready’ pupils.
In recent years, Swindon CPD Centre has worked in partnership with Andy Hind to develop a programme of professional development for our newly qualified teachers. Andy is a former primary school headteacher who has built an international reputation for his innovative and inspirational approach to teacher training. He gains immense professional satisfaction through working with newcomers to the profession and helping them to develop the skills and knowledge required to make the induction year a springboard to a successful career. Feedback from previous cohorts of NQTs indicates that Andy’s sessions provide them with an invaluable foundation of learning in the early stages of their career. Last year, 70 NQTs from 35 Swindon primary schools attended one or more of the sessions, with 65% of these attending on all five days. Once again the evaluations from delegates were very positive. Across the individual sessions, and across a range of quality assurance questions, the average ratings were: Excellent = 60% Very Good = 34% Good = 6%
