The Successful NQT has been developed around 5 learning themes and 5 key learning questions (KLQs):
Module 4 – 26th February 2019 (Conference timings – 9.00 to 3.30)
• Key learning theme – Improving interaction
□ K.L.Q. – What are the key features of worthwhile and effective classroom dialogue that support an improvement in standards across the curriculum?
Module four considers the role of speaking and listening and collaborative construction within effective learning experiences. This session will explore issues around adult questioning skills, how teachers and teaching assistants evaluate the effectiveness of interaction and will offer a range of practical tools for effective collaborative learning.
In recent years, Swindon CPD Centre has worked in partnership with Andy Hind to develop a programme of professional development for our newly qualified teachers. Andy is a former primary school headteacher who has built an international reputation for his innovative and inspirational approach to teacher training. He gains immense professional satisfaction through working with newcomers to the profession and helping them to develop the skills and knowledge required to make the induction year a springboard to a successful career. Feedback from previous cohorts of NQTs indicates that Andy’s sessions provide them with an invaluable foundation of learning in the early stages of their career. Last year, 70 NQTs from 35 Swindon primary schools attended one or more of the sessions, with 65% of these attending on all five days. Once again the evaluations from delegates were very positive. Across the individual sessions, and across a range of quality assurance questions, the average ratings were: Excellent = 60% Very Good = 34% Good = 6%
