The Successful NQT has been developed around 5 learning themes and 5 key learning questions (KLQs):
Module 3 – 17th January 2019 (Conference timings – 9.15 to 3.15)
• Key learning theme – Understanding Pedagogy and our learners
□ K.L.Q. – Which classroom approaches to teaching and learning cater for all types of learner?
Module Three seeks to consider basic pedagogical approaches that influence learning and explores how different learners learn. Recent research has begun to highlight a range of classroom interventions that have the greatest effect size on pupil outcomes. Teachers and teaching assistants must look at how they are planning and delivering effective experiences that make the most of a clear set of pedagogical approaches for effective teaching. Not every pupil learners the same way and if a teacher is to close any gaps in attainment, it is essential that they understand how their pupils learn most effectively.
In recent years, Swindon CPD Centre has worked in partnership with Andy Hind to develop a programme of professional development for our newly qualified teachers. Andy is a former primary school headteacher who has built an international reputation for his innovative and inspirational approach to teacher training. He gains immense professional satisfaction through working with newcomers to the profession and helping them to develop the skills and knowledge required to make the induction year a springboard to a successful career. Feedback from previous cohorts of NQTs indicates that Andy’s sessions provide them with an invaluable foundation of learning in the early stages of their career. Last year, 70 NQTs from 35 Swindon primary schools attended one or more of the sessions, with 65% of these attending on all five days. Once again the evaluations from delegates were very positive. Across the individual sessions, and across a range of quality assurance questions, the average ratings were: Excellent = 60% Very Good = 34% Good = 6%
