The Successful NQT has been developed around 5 learning themes and 5 key learning questions (KLQs):
Module 1 – 25th September 2019 (Conference timings – 9.15 to 3.15)
• Key learning theme –Me, Myself and I – A journey towards Mastery
□ K.L.Q. – How does a newly qualified teacher develop the professional skills, attitudes and behaviours needed to be the very best?
Module One explores what an individual must do to become a truly effective teacher and a valuable member of any school team. The Module will consider issues around human capital, professional accountability and professional mindset and how the attitude of any professional is the biggest determining impact on that individual’s future success. An effective teacher never stops learning and approaches their role with an absolute desire to continually improve.
In recent years, Swindon CPD Centre has worked in partnership with Andy Hind to develop a programme of professional development for our newly qualified teachers. Andy is a former primary school headteacher who has built an international reputation for his innovative and inspirational approach to teacher training. He gains immense professional satisfaction through working with newcomers to the profession and helping them to develop the skills and knowledge required to make the induction year a springboard to a successful career. Feedback from previous cohorts of NQTs indicates that Andy’s sessions provide them with an invaluable foundation of learning in the early stages of their career. Last year, 70 NQTs from 35 Swindon primary schools attended one or more of the sessions, with 65% of these attending on all five days. Once again the evaluations from delegates were very positive. Across the individual sessions, and across a range of quality assurance questions, the average ratings were: Excellent = 60% Very Good = 34% Good = 6%
