Research and Innovation Groups (RIGs)

The National College has identified a number of ways in which Teaching Schools can engage in, and promote, research and development.

  • undertaking research and development projects locally to identify and/or help tackle key school improvement priorities
  • participation in the national research and development themes projects for 2015-16:
  • what makes great pedagogy? – what makes great professional development which leads to consistently great pedagogy?

Swindon RIGs.

In Swindon we have also funded the establishment of a number of Research and Innovation Groups – RIGs.

RIGs are networks of teachers with a shared interest in exploring innovations and research in their subject areas with a view to disseminating good practice across local schools. They are also keen to engage in new research opportunities and studies for their own professional development and to be at the forefront of pedagogical advancements. The RIGs are led by Swindon practitioners for Swindon practitioners.

Setting up a RIG

If you would like some funding (up to £5000) to set up a RIG to research an issue relevant to your school, cluster or Swindon, or you would like to focus on a regional or national priority, please complete the action plan and send it to sjerman@swindonteachingschool.org.uk.  The Teaching School Strategic Partners will then review your submission and funds will be released to you if your bid is successful.  Please email if you have further queries.
