On Wednesday 17th, school leaders from around the local area attended the Swindon Teaching School’s first conference of the year. Themed around Leadership and Learning, the aim of the conference was to give delegates something different. Nicholas Garrick of Lighting up Learning, discussed the benefits of coaching and its importance in leadership. Delegates discussed the powerful use of ‘and’ in the coaching conversation alongside the importance of giving people a safe space to think through their ideas. Alongside this, Mark Fuller and Ian Bailey from Babcock International spoke to delegates about the principles of good leadership. Both Mark and Ian shared their experiences of leadership which included Mark’s career as a secondary leader and headteacher and Ian’s career in the Navy.
Finally, all delegates attended a presentation by Rasmus Schiellerup and Casper Rongsted from Denmark’s famous Nordic School. Both Rasmus and Casper both spoke about the Nordic views on education which included the importance of building relationships with students.
