Outline of sessions:
Coaching is widely recognised as an effective means of bringing about sustainable, positive change to support pupil progress. Coaching challenges the default thinking and limiting beliefs which can be affecting performance from NQT to SLT level.
Teachers who have experienced coaching training speak of its impact in terms of changed thinking and being able to grow generative, solutions-focused mind-sets.
Put simply, the coaching process allows for the understanding of what you have, what you would prefer to have and the steps you need to take to have what you want.
7th November 2017: Identifying and exploring issues; setting a goal
20th November: Comparing where you are with what you want
27th November: Looking at options and trying them for size
7th December 2017: Deciding on a way forward, recognising achievement and holding self to account
Ron Piper, formerly Assistant Principal at The Ridgeway School and now PGCE Course Leader for the Swindon SCITT. Ron holds ICF recognised coaching qualifications and is also an NLP Master Practitioner and Trainer. Ron's current training focuses on exploring the commonalities that exist between outstanding teaching, coaching and self-leadership and considers questions such as Do Outstanding teachers coach rather than teach? What’s similar about coaching and leadership thinking? and What has to happen to create a coaching culture for staff and students? Ron is especially interested in how planning and designing lessons around coaching presuppositions has positive impact on student outcomes. In short, Ron is keen to help teachers to be coaches in their classrooms and help them to understand that Outstanding is a way of thinking rather than doing.
