About STS


Swindon Teaching School was accredited as a Teaching School in 2012 in the first cohort of Teaching Schools. Our vision for our Teaching School Alliance is one which:

  • is outward facing, with honesty, trust and a shared moral purpose to get the best possible outcomes for all of our children and young people in our schools
  • supports and challenges all staff to consistently improve, have high expectations and a determination to be outstanding practitioners and leaders through research and development groups, continuous professional development and school to school support
  • encourages schools to work together to support and challenge one another resulting in more outstanding schools due to rapid and sustained progress for all pupils
  • values the highest quality professional development of staff from Initial Teacher Training through to development of new and existing Headteachers
  • is self-improving, with a focus on improving outcomes for all stakeholders within a value-for-money framework and a rigorous QA focus
  • creates a national model of excellence which is innovative and influences the national educational landscape


All Teaching Schools have to set targets and implement strategies to successfully achieve nationally set Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) in the following 6 areas (The Big 6):
